Pupils get designing!

Mr Norton has given his assembly this morning on how to design your home and year 8 pupils are busy designing their homes in PSE now. Some of their houses are looking very 'interesting'......... some images to follow.....

          Design questions of the day:

  • What design will make the structure strong?
  • How can the design be creative?
  • Can you design it so it will "hold" less water if it rains?
  • How will it stand up?
  • What happens if it is windy?
  • How much card do we need to collect?

Mr Norton - Chief Designer. Assembly on Tuesday.

Mr Norton our chief designer has been busy preparing for his rough sleep shelter design assembly taking place on Tuesday to year 8. Year 8 students will design their cardboard shelter's after this in PSE.
HOT OFF THE PRESS: On the night the student with the best shelter, designed and manufactured will receive house points (judged by Mr Norton, YL- Mrs Owen and a member of SLT)

The requirements of the shelters:

  • It should be creatively designed - stand out from the crowd.
  • It should only be made from tape and cardboard (cable ties can secure it to fencing if appropriate).
  • The shelter must be structurally secure in its manufacture.
  • The structure should be manufactured to a high standard.
  • The home should survive the night.

Numeracy and Literacy - Rough Sleep style.

Only 17 sleeps till the event and students are getting very excited!

To get year 8 in the mood for the event in form time Numeracy and Literacy will be dedicated for the next few weeks on Rough Sleep activities. I wonder if students can work out the percentage they need to raise individually so we all make our target of £7000.00?

Thanks to Ms Blackburn for preparing this work.

Charity we are raising for.

We are raising money for a local charity -  the Joel Community Trust.

It is based at St Peter's Church and has been a sanctuary for homeless/vulnerable people for some years. Every Wednesday the Church opens its doors to anyone in need and offers hot food, friendship and spiritual refreshment. It welcomes around 50 guests and gives support and counsel to all those struggling with loneliness, damaging addictions, joblessness and homelessness. For more information please visit:  http://www.joelcommunitytrust.org.uk/

Food Glorious Food!

Thanks to Mrs Rochowski we have got sponsorship from our local Waitrose stores. The Worcester Park branch will be providing all the vegetables for our evening soup kitchen AND have also offered to roll up their sleeves and help out with the peeling the veg before the event! Not only that but our local New Malden branch are going to provide items for our breakfast - sausages/bread rolls etc.

WOW.  Waitrose you are fantastic. Thank you everyone for the support!

But where?

Over 140 pupils and 20+ staff will be sleeping in our school playground - see map below. We will be sleeping in cardboard boxes and sleeping bags - fingers crossed it doesn't rain and we all fit in!

So the Planning Begins.........
